2-Hour Studio or Video Session
$600
Book a 2-hour design session — either at our KBG Design Studio or via video conference — for design advice on an existing or in-construction project.
Clients can share their architectural/ design plans, inspiration, any previously-selected finishes, fixtures, appliances, etc., for a thorough assessment of their project.
Whether you’re questioning your floor plan or materials previously selected, we can review, redline, and provide our recommendations during the course of the session.

Our Design Process
PHASE 1 | PROJECT INQUIRY Complete our client questionnaire on the Connect page of our website. We will be in contact to schedule a 1 hour complimentary phone consultation to discuss your project in more detail.
PHASE 2 | IN-PERSON CONSULTATION & DESIGN AGREEMENT If we are a good fit for your project, we will schedule an in-person paid consultation. During this consultation, we can do a more in-depth walk of the spaces with you, review the project goals, discuss aesthetic preferences, and ask site-specific questions. Seeing how the home is currently functioning (or not), gives us invaluable client-specific insight and helps us identify any other beneficial design solutions for you. Following the comprehensive site visit, we can compose a project-specific Design Agreement. The design agreement will lay out the scope of your project, define your design deposit, and lock-in your project’s hourly rate. Both of these items are determined by the size, scope, and location of your project. On average our hourly rate is typically between $225-$250. The average total billable hours spent on a project ranges from 350-700+ hours over the course of the project. Phase 1 & 2 typically takes about 4-6 weeks to complete, depending on availability. Paid consultations are a flat fee of $500.
PHASE 3 | SITE MEASURE Upon receipt of your signed agreement, we schedule the site measure & documentation of your property. Our site measures are completed by a 3rd-party trade partner via Lidar-scans of the home, inside and out, with much-needed accuracy. They then draft up the as-builts of your home - which springboards us into the concept development phase. This phase typically takes about 2-4 weeks depending on the availability of our 3rd-party trade partner.
PHASE 4 | CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT Utilizing the prepared ‘as-built’ CAD drawings, we then develop up to 5 proposed layout options for your project. We also gather applicable concept images, sketches, and 3Ds to pair with the various layouts. Upon completion, we meet in-studio to review all of these elements. This phase typically takes about 6-8 weeks to complete. Oftentimes it takes a few weeks, sometimes months, post-meeting to arrive at the final layout. Typically we combine our client‘s most-loved features from each layout to create the final hybrid proposed layout.
PHASE 5 | DETAILED DESIGN With proposed layouts finalized and your blessing received, we can now move forward with what we call, Detailed Design. During this phase, we begin procuring all the finish design materials, fixtures, appliances, etc - basically any material that gets professionally affixed within or on your home. Simultaneously, our team is drafting all the associated CAD drawings - inside and out - necessary for permits and later construction. All client-approved finishes are depicted in detail within our plans. Most projects require 1-3 in-studio meetings to finalize or review all materials. If you want us to take the lead/ own the permitting for your project, we research the current municipality requirements pertaining to your specific project and site. This phase typically takes about 12-14 weeks to complete.
PHASE 6 | PERMITS We can provide two sets of plans for every project; permit sets and build sets. Permit sets provide the data that the city/ county requires while our build set of plans is what’s required in the field for actual construction. With all municipality requirements in mind, we then plan out what supplemental reports, surveys, or engineering plans that are needed to create the permit-submittal set of plans. We work with your respective city/county to submit the necessary plans…and then we wait..and we follow up...a lot. This is an ideal time to begin interviewing and vetting potential general contractor (GC) candidates. We can also provide GC recommendations and procure detailed bids from our preferred GCs & trade partners. Depending on the scope and the city or county your project is within, the entire permit process can take anywhere between 3-10 months. Smaller projects might qualify for faster permit turnarounds. We do everything in our power to expedite and navigate your project through this unglamorous and more often than not, daunting process.
PHASE 7 | MATERIAL PRICING/PURCHASING While we are waiting to receive permit issuance, we work with you, our clients, to finalize all materials and gather associated pricing and lead times for your final selections. Depending on lead times, we might kick off some purchasing in order to align with the GC’s provided project timeline. Material purchasing continues into the construction phase to ensure materials arrive at the time they are needed. If you also want us to procure new furnishings, window treatments, art, etc, we can begin this separate phase at this time. Ideally, all construction materials and details are finalized, however, these could be sourced in parallel with the other materials if needed.
PHASE 8 | CONSTRUCTION Upon permit issuance and general contractor selection, construction can officially begin! Yay! During this phase, we work alongside your GC & trade-partners to ensure our designs are executed according to the build-set drawings and our material specifications package. We make regular site visits throughout construction to check in on site progress, review for accuracy, and meet various trades-partners to address their questions. We are always at-the-ready to address and resolve any design-pivots caused by unforeseen or limiting site conditions. The timeline for the construction phase is dependent on the GC and the scope of work, however, there are circumstances that are beyond anyone’s control that could affect the final construction timeline.
PHASE 9 | INSTALLATION & PHOTOSHOOT Installation of any furnishings and accessories would be scheduled after your final inspections and whole-house cleanings. Our team is present on-site for all deliveries and installations to ensure your home is truly ready for you and your family to enjoy for years to come! We strive for all our projects to be professionally photographed and/or filmed to be showcased within our design portfolio or social media presence. After all, these finished project photos are probably why you’re here reading so much about us and our process. ;-)
